Crawfish – Washed & Clean Crawfish

How to Clean Crawfish

We Give Our Crawfish A Bath!

Don’t waste salt.

The old wives tale of rinsing crawfish in salt water is a waste of your time and salt. Crawfish excrete waste through their gills, and this takes time. A short rinse is great for cleaning existing waste, but the salt will not cause them to purge themselves. So rinse your crawfish well, but save your salt. We recommend submerging the sack in fresh water multiple times until used water is clear. The box they come in is a great tool for this purpose.

All of our crawfish are
washed & cleaned.

Very few do it like we do.

A true cleaned crawfish is one that has been washed with fresh super oxygenated water. This process was developed originally as a way to hold inventory. Howvever, It was soon discovered that the crawfish self purge themselves within 24 to 36 hours regardless of the time in water or out. Ours stay in the water up until we put them in the ice chest. They will finish purging themselves in the ice chest on their way ot you. So when you receive, give them a rinse and put them back in ice chest until you are ready to cook. Rinse them one more time just before you cook.

We ship them when they are just right!

Note: Crawfish do have a dark vein that you should remove before eating.*It will not hurt you to eat it*. In young crawfish, that vein will turn semi clear once the crawfish is all purged. But as they get older, the vein stays a dark color, so it makes it look like it is dirty, which usually is not the case. This is why it’s just easier to remove it. If you push in the tale when you are twisting, the vein will separate from the meat.
