“What’s that Noise?”

The plane was filling up with rice seeds to make another round!

“What’s that Noise?”

Humm… What’s that buzz you ask? We are beginning to plant our rice crops here on the farm in Branch, LA. Did you know that we alternate our cajun crawfish ponds and rice fields? It’s true! The crawfish ponds in 2011 will be used as rice fields in 2012. If you’ve called our phone lines lately, there’s no doubt that you’ve heard the buzz of our crop duster loud and clear.  Our plane has been extremely busy sprinkling rice seeds throughout the fields. With the warm weather upon us, it’s undoubtedly the perfect time to plant rice. Be sure and check out our video to see all the action that we see! It’s just like our own personal air show!

This may seem a little confusing, since crawfish season just kicked into full swing, but the rice usually isn’t ready to harvest until about July.  Did you also know that rice is one of the oldest foods known to man and can be traced back to several different countries? It can be dated back to before 2500BC!

Rice is big deal to our farmers here locally.  In Crowley, LA there is an annual International Rice Festival hosted by Acadia Parish citizens to honor the many rice farmers in our area for all of their hard work.  The festivities usually take place some time in mid-October, after all harvesting has been completed! So if you’re ever in the area around that time of year, be sure and stop by to party with us cajun style!
