Take a Moment for Memorial Day

May 20, 2011 ccadmin

Memorial Day was officially named a national holiday in 1868 by General John A. Logan, and was known as Decoration Day. Families, friends and communities would recognize their fallen soldiers by decorating their grave sites to show their gratitude.

Over the years, Memorial Day has gathered many other traditions. It’s become custom to display the flag at half staff on the day of tribute. Also, in the year 2000, 3:00PM was declared the National Moment of Remembrance. Cities and towns across the nation try to do their part in paying tribute to our fallen soldiers by organizing parades to honor them. Red poppies have become a symbol for everything our veterans and soldiers killed in duty stand for. These poppies remind everyone that we as a nation are “keeping the faith with all who died”.

While some people think of Memorial Day as a day of somber remembrance, others take the day as a chance to be thankful for the freedom that we have because of the sacrifices of the departed soldiers. Whether you’re at home enjoying peace with your family or out paying tribute to our honorable Armed Forces, just remember at 3:00PM to say a little thank you, because without their sacrifices we wouldn’t be where we are today as a country.

Cajun Crawfish would like to say thank you to all our past, present, and future soldiers!
